(WIP 1) Tommy's War Private 4th Bn Middlesex Regiment Mons 1914

Started on the this project a week ago. Here's a picture of the progress.

The subject is private from the 4th Bn Middlesex Regiment marching off to the Battle of Mons. The groundwork suggest he is marching through the city where recruitment posters are being put up. I will be making a can of glue & brush which will be placed on the posters to complete the groundwork.

The recruitment posters are available online. The one with Lord Kitchener stuck with me the most :) While technically the poster should not exist during the Battle of Mons, I felt it was a nice touch and decided to dispense with history for once.

The poster was first used in September 1914 while the Battle of Mons took place in August 1914

(Completed) Tommy's War Vignette "Dogfight"

Completed this lovely vignette on 2 May 14.  Great figures from Tommy's War. The Sopwith Camel was from Academy. Not the best of fit but it got the job done with some putty and filing. This vignette also marks my 1st attempt at building WW1 albeit 1/2 of it. Despite being 1/2 a plane, the rigging had me frustrated at times as the right tension must be applied to keep the threads taut and CA glue carefully applied. Nonetheless it was a great fun.

I like this scale as the face of the figures are still manageable to paint and would be painting more 54mm scale figures in the future :)

(WIP 2) Tommy's War Vignette "Dogfight"

Both figures are done and have put them together for the 1st time. The figures speak of a compelling after action debrief where the pilot shares with his counterpart on the manoeuvre he pulled during his duel with an enemy fighter.

Next up I will be working on the basework. It will be a grassy plain where the planes are dispersed awaiting their orders to scramble.  To complete the vignette, I will be incorporating a section of the ubiquitous Sopwith Camel in the background.

(Completed) Alpine German Fallschirmjager "Unternehmen Merkur"

Wrapping up another fun project.

The only challenge I felt that needs to be highlighted was to get the rifle sling bent to a realistic shape. Apart from that, It was a great project to take on and experiment with various colours to complement the predominantly green figure.

I was also pleasantly surprised when my request to buy some decals for the helmet was answered by 2 outstanding gents from PlanetFigure. Frankcy and Mike (faust18) both sent me decals from France and UK at no cost to me. (Francky sent via registered the mail at 8 euros!)

I was totally blown away by their generosity and hope to pay it forward in the future.

Thank You Francky & Mike :)

Here are the photos of the completed Fallschirmjager :)

(WIP 1) Tommy's War Vignette "Dogfight"

Here's the 1st figure from a 2 figure vignette I am working on. It will be in 1/32 (54mm) scale.

The subject is a pilot in the dress uniform of the Royal Flying Corp in 1915.

Base color of tunic and trousers as follows:

Tunic: Olive Green + Burnt Sienna + Yellow Oxide
Trousers: Tunic Base color + Cadmium Orange

While I have not started on the highlights, its very visible where the highlights will be. Photography is a very useful tool for those who are not able visualise the fall of light. I rely on it alot :)
